10 Best Places to Instagram in Bali
You've probably seen gorgeous Bali photos all over instagram. If you're looking for the side of the island that you haven't seen on social media, consider checking out our other post about the side of Bali that you haven't seen on instagram. However, if you're looking to find the places that you have seen on social media and want to see them for yourself then this is the post for you.
In order to visit the best places to Instagram in Bali then you'll need at least a few days to get around to each spot. You can check out our two week Bali itinerary if you want to get an idea of how to hit all the spots mentioned in this post, plus loads of more useful info.
*Note* - One of these spots in technically in Lombok, Indonesia, which is an island that is about 1.5 hours by fast boat from Bali.
1. Kelingking Beach
Located on Nusa Penida is the insta famous spot of Kelingking Beach. This beach is on the west side of the island, about an hour away from Diamond Beach. From the parking lot, it's about a 10 minute walk to the top of the cliff where you can see the views pictured below. If you want to walk all the way down to the beach it takes about 30-40 minutes on a steep/rocky path. We highly recommend wearing a pair of shoes if you do the hike!
2. Karang Boma Cliff
Located roughly 33 km (20 miles) south of Canggu is Karang Boma Cliff. The photos are a bit deceiving because the cliff looks like quite a hike from where the photos were taken. In reality, it takes less than 2 minutes to make the quick walk.
Since this spot has gained popularity from being one of the best instagram spots in Bali, there is a small entrance fee of roughly 10,000 IDR. Nonetheless, it was one of our favorite evenings as we watched another colorful sunset paint the sky. From the edge of the cliff, it's actually possible to see Uluwatu Temple, one of the several sea temples in Bali.
3. Balangan Beach
Balangan Beach has a great vibe and was the cleanest beach we came across in Bali. That alone puts it on our list of best spots to instagram in Bali. We saw one couple doing a photoshoot on the beach so we weren't the only ones there to take pics. Surprisingly, it really wasn't too busy which gave the beach a nice laid back vibe.
We rented two chairs and an umbrella for the daily rate of 50,000 IDR (~$3 USD). However, we only stayed a couple hours since we wanted to make it to Karang Boma Cliff for sunset.
4. Diamond Beach
This beautiful beach is located on Nusa Penida, an island off the coast of the mainland that is still technically part of Bali. To get to this spot, you'll need to take a fast boat from Sanur Beach to Nusa Penida which takes about 45 minutes. After arriving at the fast boat terminal, you'll need to rent a scooter and drive another 45 minutes to the southwest part of the island. Nusa Penida is known for having some dodgy roads, so make sure you drive carefully!
5. Gili Meno Underwater Sculpture Park
So this is the only place on the list that isn't technically in Bali, it's part of Lombok which is its neighboring island. The Gili islands are a chain of small islands off the coast of Lombok that are only about a 1-1.5 hour fast boat ride from the east coast of Bali. You can easily do a half day snorkeling trip on Gili Air Island for 100,000 IDR per person (~$7 USD).
Our boat took us to four different locations with the underwater sculpture park being one of them. We went on a public boat (10-20 peole) since it's the cheaper option. But, beware there will be tons of people around the sculptures so it's tough to get a shot with nobody else's flippers in it. Despite all of that we loved it and which is why it still makes our list of best spots to instagram in Bali.
6. Selat Rice Fields
The rice fields in Selat are a no-brainer if you're looking for the best places to instagram in Bali. Selat is roughly 45 km (28 miles) north east of Ubud. The drive takes just under an hour and a half, but you will drive through an amazing landscape of rice fields and farms. The climate of this side of the island feels much different than the hot beaches in the south. The rice fields in Selat are high above sea level resulting in cool and moderate temperatures throughout the day/night.
The first picture below is actually at Mahagiri Panoramic Resort & Restaurant. This open style restaurant offers a stunning view overlooking working rice fields while you eat your meal. The food is decent enough but one review summed it up perfectly, 'you don't go for the food - you go for the view.'
7. Camaya Bali Bamboo House
You might see this Airbnb gaining quite a bit of popularity on social media. It's become a famous place to shoot photos overlooking rice fields in the jungles of Selat. If you get the chance to check it out it's a great little hideaway in the mountains. However, this property is quite pricey, even for reserving an hour photoshoot. Read more about the details of this property in our post below!
8. Strawberry Fields Forever
On our way home to our Airbnb in Canggu, Molly spotted this restaurant and we decided to make a stop inside because she is a huge Beatles fan. The entire restaurant has a rustic retro feel with a big Beatles influence. The lights and décor create a unique look is why it's on our list of best spots to instagram in Bali.
9. Atuh Beach
Atuh Beach is also on Nusa Penida is walking distance from Diamond Beach making it another one of the best spots to instagram in Bali. From the same cliff you can walk down to either beach, but they are located on opposite sides. When we visited Penida, we ended up staying close to Atuh beach at a homestay with an awesome host, Made.
We got there right around sunset; he made us a fire and a delicious home cooked dinner. After dinner we rode on his motorbike through the jungle to our little bungalow for the night. In the morning, we watched the tide go out and saw a few fishermen wade out to catch crabs along the rocky shoreline.
10. Pantai Tegal Wangi
Pantai Tegal Wangi features a cliff overlooking teal blue waters with a narrow path that leads down to a small secluded beach. This was actually one of the cleaner beaches we found, but not quite as clean as Balangan Beach.
However, there was a pile of the trash on the path leading up from the beach. As any place gains popularity, there is always the risk of increased trash so please pack out your trash and be respectful of the environment.
