Destination: Monument Valley, UT
Length of Stay: 1 Day (September 2018)
Entrance Fee: Free!
A day trip to Monument Valley was well the detour from Bryce & Zion National Parks on the way to Arches National Park. It took us about a full 8 hours to make the drive from Bryce Zion campground to Arches, however Monument Valley was about half way. This valley actually stretches between both Arizona and Utah, but we were keen on stopping in the Utah part of the valley to see the famous spot that Forrest Gump stopped running. You can see the original shoes from the movie below, which got to see during our tour of Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles, CA.
The 'Forrest Gump' point is about 13 miles after crossing the Arizona/Utah border, and the exact coordinates of the location are 37°06'05.9"N 109°59'26.4"W. Believe it or not, it is actually kind of hard to miss because more than likely you will see a bunch of people taking pictures in the middle of the road. If you're doing this (we are guilty of this too), be mindful of oncoming traffic. While we were pulling up there was a guy that was lying down in the middle of the road and didn't get up until we came to a complete stop. If you're taking the iconic picture, I'm not sure why you would want a car right behind you anyway.
